For that generation that was a horrific event which preempted ww2 and your grandfathers enlisting. Your grandfather adams was an airplane mechanic in the war and your grandfather coutermarsh was a barracks sargent in germany, then he re-enlisted in the korean war afterward but told his mom (your great grandmother) that he got called back up and had to go. he was promoted posthumously (sp?) which we found out at his burial. Interesting family history, eh?<br />Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1976617750201493253.post-11327247673459294132012-09-13T21:32:17.637-04:002012-09-13T21:32:17.637-04:00Yeah, the effects are still felt and matter, it wa...Yeah, the effects are still felt and matter, it was such a big event. All the soldiers who went over and those who still fight in Afghanistan, more examples of people risking their lives for others. It's crazy. It's also strange how little I've thought of 9/11 for so long. Even previous September 11th's, I'm pretty sure I thought 'Oh that was sad, tragic, crazy thing that happened' and promptly didn't really think about it. I think the moment of silence at the school is what really got me thinking. I remember being at a workshop during the time he was over there and we had to name one of our real life heroe, and I named him. Those soldiers that enlisted following 9/11 are all heros also in my book, as well as the firefighters and policemen and civilians that risked their lives that day, we think about the ones who died tht day but many died afterwards over in the war also as a result of what happened that day. the aftereffects live on in all of us. I had such a busy day yesterday at work that I did not really have time to think about it being 9/11. thanks for your blog which gave me a minute to reflect.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
